What is the difference between unwinding a sale and deleting a sale?
When unwinding a sale, you are removing the sold value in the customer record (Value Tab) while leaving intact the customer in "sold/sale completed" status. Unwinding a sale should only be used when you don't want the sale to reflect in your sales reporting but you do want the customer to continue to receive sold follow up. Unwinding a sale is not to be used when trying to correct deal information.
When deleting a sale, you are deleting the sold value and reverting the lead back to its previous state. Now that the lead has been reopened, you can delete a vehicle of interest or re-mark the lead sold with a different vehicle of interest. **If you accidentally mark a customer sold on the wrong vehicle, you must delete the sale in order to correct it. Unwinding the sale will not allow you to change the sold vehicle in the lead.
• In order to delete a sold record, you must go to "Reporting Tab > Sales Reporting > Sales Details/Edit Sales"
• Once in the Sales Details/Edit Sales report, you will want to choose the appropriate sold date range for the intended sold customer. Keep in mind, the sale date may not be the date that you marked the lead as sold, the sale date will reflect the chosen "purchase date" which can be viewed in the value tab.
Now that the sale is deleted, the customer and that lead will now be reverted to its prior lead status. At this point you can re-mark the customer sold with the correct vehicle of interest.
• If you are simply needing to change the sales person on the deal, change the "purchase date", or modify the sale location, click the edit button from the value tab of the customer profile. When you are finished modifying the deal, make sure to click "update sale" on the bottom of the deal edit screen. Again, you do not need to unwind the sale, you would want to edit and update the existing sale.
If you wish to override the DMS sold data, you will want to choose "Yes" - Override DMS, then click "Update Sale".
This will retain your edits even if they differ from the DMS sold data.
Most dealers' processes will not involve unwinding sales, but rather deleting them. If you would like to learn more about deleting sales, please call our coaching team at 833-456-8117.
